A decision will depend largely on the reports issued by the Minsa on the status of the pandemic.
The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) said Thursday that international flights could be authorized by the end of this year or early 2021. This way, he specified that this decision will depend largely on the reports issued by the Ministry of Health (Minsa) regarding the situation of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
“This is not definitive because we still have to wait for the results from the Health sector, (but we hope) by the end of the year or the beginning of the next year to be able to open (the international flights),” said the head of the sector, Rocío Barrios, in statements to the press after attending a delivery of mechanical ventilators donated by Confiep.
As reported by the newspaper Gestión, Barrios explained that the resumption of international flights is something that should be consulted and coordinated with the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), Foreign Affairs and the Minsa. Therefore, he explained that it would be very “risky” to guarantee an exact date at this time.
“We are going to promote in the following months, facing the end of the year, the national tourism in order to prepare ourselves with the security measures at the level of protocols and also with the capacity of response to be able to open the international flights and the tourism afterwards”, he added.
On the other hand, the Minister said that Mincetur will soon be issuing a regulation that will include two improvements to the Tourism Business Support Fund (FAE-Turismo) that will increase the number of beneficiaries.
“In these days we will be issuing a supreme decree by which we are making two improvements to the FAE-Tourism in order to increase the number of beneficiaries. In this case, MYPES with RUS, which were not currently considered, will now be considered and above all also take into account the level of total debt that mype has,” he said.
Finally, he explained that with this regulation, the regulation will be approved in the coming days and the process of loans and disbursement of resources for companies in the tourism sector can begin.
