Staff from Ferrocarril Transandino, the company that holds the concession for the railroad in the south and southeast of the country, successfully completed the rehabilitation of the railroad line between Cusco and Poroy, which was affected by an unusually heavy rainfall during the first months of the year.
Remediation and repair work on the railway was carried out at kilometer 12,600 of the route as part of the concessionaire’s work to manage the railway infrastructure. These works were resumed in the first days of July, after being suspended due to the declaration of the state of emergency for the propagation of Covid-19 in the national territory.
With the rehabilitation of the railroad in this sector, Ferrocarril Transandino will allow the resumption of rail transport services authorized to date on the Cusco – Machu Picchu route and vice versa, that is, transport for passengers living in Machu Picchu and communities, as well as baggage and cargo services.
“It is also important to note that this event did not previously affect train services between Ollantaytambo and Machu Picchu, because during the rainy season the train operation is only in that section,” said the company.
