The National Day of the Vicuña is introduced to honor the importance of this animal as a representative and emblematic species of Peru, which is symbolized in the National Emblem.
Vicuñas are the smallest South American camellias compared to alpacas, llamas and guanacos, as they are 1.80 meters high, 80 centimeters long and weigh between 40 and 50 kilos.
Their characteristic color is beige or light brown-red (hence the name vicuña) with a white back in the middle and on the legs, with differences depending on the geographical areas where they live. Other individuals have a long white breast tuft.
